BretlBlocks are made by Donna Bretl. Her geometric puzzles and trivets are created from hardwoods, usually birch, walnut, cherry, beech and red oak. She uses a table saw and a sliding compound saw to cut the boards into diamonds, trapezoids and triangles. The patterns are reminiscent of quilt patterns. Each puzzle is made from geometric shapes that can be rearranged to form many different patterns. The puzzle pieces are enclosed in a wooden tray that is shaped as a hexagon, octagon, or square. A brochure is included to suggest design possibilities for each puzzle. Each pattern is chosen for the variety of designs that can be made from the same pieces.
